The dark side of food delivery system 'Bae-Dal'

Every year, the use of plastic products continues to rise in South Korea. One main reason is the fast and easy food delivery system commonly known as "Bae-Dal." The overuse of food delivery systems like this is the reason why plastic waste is increasing in our daily lives. In most cases, food is delivered in plastic containers, plastic forks, spoons, and chopsticks. These items are used once and then thrown away. As a result, a large amount of plastic waste is created in urban areas, and causes serious environmental problems.

To learn more about this problem, I interviewed Cindy, a student from Bucheon. She shared how often she orders delivery food. She said, "I order delivery food once a week." Cindy seems to understand the problems, but food delivery is too convenient to think less about the environmental problems caused by plastics. Although the government and responsible organizations are taking action to solve this matter, it is every individual's responsibility to understand and make small steps to help combat these plastic problems. We must recycle, reduce, and reuse.
