Blackest Black, Vantablack
Many people assume that there is only one black color, yet there is an even darker black! In 2014, a UK company called 'Nano Systems' developed the darkest substance ever made, called Vantablack. Vantablack is a substance that absorbs 99.965% of visible light. Many people have described it as the closest thing to a black hole we will ever see. While regular black colors absorb about 90–97% of light, textures, curves, and shadows remain visible because a small amount of light is still reflected. However, because Vantablack reflects almost nothing, it leaves no shadows. It absorbs so much light that physical curves disappear, making 3D objects appear as flat, 2D surfaces.
The artist Anish Kapoor is known for having the exclusive rights to use Vantablack in his work. Other artists strongly criticized this move, arguing that "color belongs to nature and should be shared by everyone." In response, artist Stuart Semple developed the "Pinkest Pink" and sold it with the strict condition that Anish Kapoor is absolutely forbidden from purchasing it. Vantablack can be used for many things. For example, it has been applied to cars, masks, and even entire rooms. In the fields of space and science, Vantablack is used to reduce light interference in telescopes. As I grow up, I want to create a new color, just like the "blackest black" of Vantablack.
