In Korea, the water is crying for our help.
Have you ever wondered if the water in South Korea is as clean as it looks? Plastic waste is a major issue because many people use plastic bottles and other plastic items every day. This leads to tiny pieces called microplastics and nano plastics ending up in the water due to careless littering. However, to solve this microplastic problem, according to The Korea Herald, scientists have created special particles that act like magnets. When these particles are added to water, they stick to the tiny plastic pieces. Then, using a magnet, scientists can pull the plastic out of the water.
Another important point is factory waste polluting the water. Some factories accidentally let chemicals flow into rivers. For instance, according to Smart Water Magazine, pollution also comes from rain washing chemicals off farmland and from livestock waste. Farm runoff is also a big issue. When it rains, fertilizers can wash into rivers like the Han River. Smart Water Magazine reports that the government is using a "multi-front strategy" to fix the problem. Water is very important, so we should reduce, reuse, and recycle to help keep it clean.
