Inventions by Mistakes
Most people think mistakes are bad things. But is that true? One day, a cook was making French fries and a customer complained that they were too thick and damp. In response, the chef sliced the potatoes very thinly and fried them until they were crunchy. That mistake turned into a popular snack: potato chips. Mistakes are actually something we need in order to learn and help others.
Mistakes also help
scientists try new things and experiments. There are many famous inventions
made by accident all over the world. First, John Pemberton tried to create a
headache medicine but accidentally made the syrup for Coca-Cola. Later, he
mixed the drink with carbonated water, and it became a famous beverage
worldwide. Second, Spencer Silver tried to make super-strong glue but
accidentally created a weak adhesive that sticks and peels off easily. This led
to the invention of Post-it notes, which are now famous school and office
supplies everywhere. Last, while he was on holiday, Alexander Fleming
discovered that a certain mold was killing bacteria in his lab. This mistake
made it possible to create penicillin, a medicine that has helped keep people
safe and healthy.
That's why people should value mistakes. We need to make mistakes sometimes because they provide enlightenment for the next time. I believe mistakes are not bad things. When I make a mistake, I can do better the next time; it can even create a path to success. If you make a mistake, instead of feeling bad, think: "I can learn from this!"
